Please forgive our delay in updates to the website but we have had some interesting developments which have taken some time (and legal advice) to make sense of. In themselves they offer an insight to The Truth, so we share them below.

In response to our recent reports from individuals who have had negative experiences with Errol Damelin, and our call for readers to send in their own stories, we were contacted by somebody who we will call ‘Ed’ (not their real name) who shared with us 2 rather shocking and specific experiences. We (the team at Errol Damelin – The Truth) have heard all manner of stories regarding Damelin’s behaviour and aren’t easily surprised by what readers tell us, but in this instance it seemed like criminal charges could (and perhaps should have been) filed.

Whilst in continued communication with ‘Ed’ we contacted our legal advisor (who works ‘Pro bono’, having previously had a run-in with Damelin and glad to help the cause) who confirmed that in Ed’s case a criminal charge could still be made.

We tried to introduce ‘Ed’ to our legal advisor to discuss the case, and initially ‘Ed’ was very reluctant. He repeatedly pushed for us to publish his story over taking any legal recourse, but eventually agreed to a face-to-face meeting. At our legal advisor’s insistence the meeting was going to be in a public place (a coffee shop in London) in early June. When we informed ‘Ed’ of this, he pushed back hard for the meeting to take place either at our office or the office of our legal advisor. ‘Ed’ then went silent. Our attempts to communicate with ‘Ed’’ have since been unsuccessful.

We have puzzled over this for almost two months now. A number of theories have sprung up…

1.⁠ ⁠‘Ed’ provided very specific dates and locations in the story that he pushed us to publish. The theory that our legal advisor favours is that ‘Ed’ thought that we would do so without knowing that we check every fact before we publish. We are after all seeking to publish ‘The Truth’, not rumours or lies. By presenting a lie as fact in a public forum we would be opening ourselves us to legal action (Defamation of Character/ Slander etc) which could close this website and have dire personal consequences for us. However, that would have to be proven in court, so we have to ask: does Ed’s stories hold up to scrutiny? Our investigators were able to gain access to flight details which prove that Damelin was not in the country at the time of Ed’s story, and press photography which backs that up. Ed’s story can be proven to be false, and if we had published without doing our due diligence, legal action would have ensued.|

2.⁠ ⁠Another simpler possibility is that ‘Ed’ was making it all up. For reasons unknown he approached us with a lie and when it became clear that we were going to investigate and take it further than he realised he walked away.

3.⁠ ⁠Within our offices we have another theory, perhaps a more sinister one: Whilst the first theory (legal) may indeed be true, once ‘Ed’ realised that we were angling for charges to be made against Damelin through the legal system rather than on a public website, and we were not going to simply take his word and publish without checking the validity of his story, Ed’ pivoted to wanting to meet our legal advisor in either our own office or the office of the legal advisor, and when we made it clear that it wasn’t going to happen, they abandoned their plan.

So questions remain: Was the plan to take us down through litigation, and then when we didn’t take the bait the plan changed to meeting in person? Why did ‘Ed’ insist that we not meet in public? If we had agreed to meet in private at our offices, what would have happened? We have been careful to conceal our identities and location, both of which would have become known to Ed if his plan had come to fruition.

Of course, the prime question remains – Who was ‘Ed’? The email address we have for him now returned emails with “account not found”. The telephone number that we spoke on is now not reachable (burner phone?). Who would have an interest in making sure that The Truth about Errol Damelin was not revealed?
