Business Associates, Employees Come Forward

Our previous post (Jan 28th) compiled some of the stories and comments from Wonga customers.

Emboldened by the growing movement towards bringing the shameful practices of Errol Damelin to light, we have recently been contacted by a number of employees, associates and investors who were negatively impacted by the actions of Errol Damelin.

We thank you all for your bravery in reaching out to us. Here are some extracts from those coversations:
I worked for five years under this idiot and I’ve never seen a more toxic environment. He’s a control freak in every sense every tiny decision had to go through him, and if you even slightly questioned his authority, you’d be on his blacklist. He’d hold ‘private meetings’ just to berate people and make them feel useless. Classic narcissist behavior. No empathy, no accountability just a relentless need to dominate. I left because my mental health was in tatters, and I know I’m not the only one. Sarah J, London – Former Employee
He played me like a fool. We built something together, or at least I thought we did, but he had other plans. He manipulated contracts, twisted agreements in his favour, and when I realised what was going on, he turned everyone against me. The man is a master manipulator. He always has an escape plan someone else to blame, another lie to tell. I lost everything, while he walked away unscathed. If you trust him, you’re already losing. Mark R, Manchester – Former Business Associate
Honestly? Working for this **** was like living in a psychological experiment. He’d build you up one minute, then rip you down the next. He couldn’t stand when anyone else got praise or recognition it always had to be about him. The mood swings, the paranoia, the constant need to be in control of every single detail… I still get anxiety thinking about it. Never met someone who needed so much power over the people around him. **** P, ***** – Former Assistant
I should've done more due diligence before investing. Damelin can sell ice to the Eskimos, but the reality is he’s all smoke and mirrors. He controls every narrative, lies through his teeth, and when he’s caught out, he finds someone else to take the fall. He makes people doubt their own judgement while he sits back and counts his profits. I pulled out the moment I realised what kind of person I was dealing with, but by then, I'd already lost a fortune. David S, Glasgow – Former Investor
Worked in the finance department. The numbers never added up, let’s just put it that way. He had this way of ‘fixing’ financial issues that basically meant shifting things around so no one noticed. And if you did notice? You were gone. I kept my head down as long as I could, but eventually, I realised staying wasn’t worth the stress. One wrong move and you’d be thrown under the bus. He controls people through fear, plain and simple. Tom W, Bristol – Former Accountant at Wonga
